BE in Mechanical Engineering (UG)
About IGCHE, Germany
The Indo-German Centre for Higher Education (IGCHE) is a collaborative initiative that enables Indian engineering students to complete a part of their bachelor’s degree in Germany. The program emphasizes practical, interdisciplinary, and intercultural education while equipping students with strong German language skills.
IGCHE is part of the DHIK (German University Consortium for International Cooperation) and is run by a group of renowned German universities. Students from partner institutions like PSG gain the opportunity to study their final year in Germany, including an internship and a practically oriented bachelor thesis in German companies.
Students receive intensive German language training in India as part of their curriculum. Before transitioning to Germany, they must clear the TestDaF Level 4 exam. Fluency in German greatly enhances job prospects in both Indian and German companies.
The IGCHE Consortium was founded in 2010 by Hochschule Bochum, Westfälische Hochschule, Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, and Hochschule Zittau/Görlitz. The consortium has since expanded and includes:
- HTW Berlin
- Technische Hochschule Bingen
- Hochschule Bochum
- Technische Hochschule Deggendorf
- Hochschule Düsseldorf
- Fachhochschule Kiel
- HTW Saar
- Westfälische Hochschule
- Hochschule Zittau/Görlitz
About the Program
In the first three years of study, all students will do their study in English. During that time PSGIAS is responsible for the courses of study and all students must also attend German language classes for 800 hours starting from the first semester. In the fourth year the students will continue their study at one of the IGCHE Universities with German as medium of instruction. In addition each student will either do an internship in a German company for one semester and write the thesis in cooperation with the German company or do the project thesis in the same University. After completion of the study each student will receive a certified Bachelor Mechanical Degree from the respective German University.
